1 cupbeef brothI like the Better Than Bouillon brand if you don't have homemade to hand
1tbspmaple syrupGrade B is cheaper and better for cooking
1tspfish sauceI prefer Red Boat since there's no sugar in it!
1/2cupcoconut aminostamari, soy sauce, or Bragg's aminos
2tbsptoasted sesame oil
1~2 lbbeef roast
Combine the broth, garlic, syrup, fish sauce, ginger, coconut aminos, and sesame oil in your crockpot.
Place beef roast in crockpot, turning it over to coat. Ideally, it will be mostly covered by the liquid, though it's not necessary.
Cook on High for 4-5 hours or on Low for 8-9 hours.
When done, shred with a fork and serve with its sauce over rice (sticky is good!), topped with some cilantro, peanuts or cashews, and a dash of crushed red pepper.
For the roast, you can choose boneless or bone-in (yield will be lower), chuck or blade. The bone-in does lend some nice, healthy gelatin to the sauce! In this case, I used bone-in blade roast that was 1.88 lbs.
